Palm Tree Removal & Cleaning in Constantia

The tall Canary and Washingtonia palms on the older Constantia properties tend to sit close to the house or the pool. We strip the fronds and take the trunk down in short sections on ropes so nothing swings over the paving or the pool surround.

What Constantia is like to work in

Palm Removal on a Constantia property

Constantia's leafy estates and old wine-farm gardens are full of towering oaks, pines and gums that have stood for decades — beautiful, but a real risk when limbs grow out over rooftops or roots start lifting driveways. We fell, prune and remove these big mature trees carefully on the larger Constantia plots, protecting the heritage gardens around them. Free on-site quotes, fixed written prices. That's the backdrop to most palm removal work we do here.

    Trees we see here

old oaks, stone pines, gums and camphor trees on big wine-estate plots

    Access on site

long driveways and wide gardens — usually good access, but a lot of walls, pools and irrigation to protect

    The usual problem

decades-old limbs growing out over roofs, and roots lifting cobbled driveways

Palms are a Cape Town signature, but a neglected one drops heavy fronds, harbours rats, and gets dangerous when it's tall. We climb and remove palms entirely, or clean them up — dead fronds, seed stalks and skirt. Prices published below by height, fixed in writing before we start. The method itself doesn't change much across the city. If you want the deeper version, our palm tree removal & cleaning page walks through the kit, the sequence and what moves the price. What changes in Constantia is the ground you're working on.

Palms are priced on height and access more than anything else — our breakdown of what drives tree work prices in Cape Town. And if you'd rather just see the standard of work first, there are photos from Peter's actual jobs — real crew, real trees, no stock photography.

    On the ground here

Palm Removal on a Constantia property

A palm on a Constantia property is rarely the tree you notice first — the oaks and the stone pines are. It's the one standing a metre off the pool coping or hard against the house wall, planted when the garden was laid out and now looking down on the roof. Once it is on the ground the job changes character completely, and that is the part people here underestimate. Palm material is bulky and full of water, and on these plots the truck is standing at the top of a long driveway while the palm was the better part of a hundred metres away at the bottom of the garden. Every frond and every trunk round crosses that distance on foot. So we cut the trunk into lengths two people can lift comfortably rather than leaving long sections to be dragged, and we agree the route out before anything comes down — usually along the driveway edge instead of straight over irrigation lines and a lawn that has been rolled. On a big garden the clearing genuinely takes longer than the felling did.

What we check before quoting palm removal in Constantia

Three things set the price on a Constantia palm and only one of them is the tree itself. Height comes first, and we measure it against the house rather than guessing, because a palm alongside a double-storey reads far shorter from the patio than it is. Then the carry: we pace the distance from the base to wherever the truck can safely stand, and note whether the route crosses irrigation, cobbles, a rolled lawn or a pool deck. On the upper Constantia properties there is a fall across the garden as well, which rules out barrowing fully loaded and means smaller loads more often. Last, what sits directly underneath — pool coping, a glass pool fence, garden lighting, a pump housing. We would far rather move the loose things and board the fixed ones than replace them. If you want the base taken out too, say so at the quote so it happens in the same visit.

    How it runs

Our palm removal process in Constantia

    1

    Assess height and access

Tall palms wedged between houses or on the verge need careful planning — we check the rope routes and drop zones before we start.

    2

    Climb and strip the fronds

Our climber works up the trunk removing dead and live fronds, seed pods and skirt, either to clean the palm up or to prep it for removal.

    3

    Section down the trunk

For full removal we cut the bare trunk down in controlled sections, lowering each piece so nothing below is at risk.

    4

    Clear the heavy debris

Palm fronds and trunk sections are heavy and bulky — we load and haul the lot, and sweep the street or driveway clean.
