Tokai pines fail high up, and that changes what the emergency actually is. A tree that put on its height inside a sheltered block grew tall and straight without much taper or root spread, and now that the blocks around it have gone it's holding wind it never had to hold. What gives way is the stem, well above roof height, rather than the roots. So the piece lying on your lawn is often the smaller half of the problem — the rest is still up there, torn out and hung in what's left of the crown, and a hung section of pine that size will come down on its own, in still air, days later.
