Kommetjie is a milkwood village with some palms in it rather than the other way round, and that ordering matters on the day. The palms cope with the conditions better than most of what gets planted here — constant onshore, salt-laden wind flattens conifers and burns off new growth, while a palm simply goes ragged at the crown and keeps standing.
