Sand changes how a grind behaves more than people expect. Dry Table View sand runs back into the cut almost as fast as it comes out, so the hollow never looks as deep as it is and the finished level gets checked against a straight edge laid across the hole rather than by eye. The spoil comes out as more sand than chip too, which is worth knowing if you were counting on mulch. The bigger local factor is the lean. Very little here grew straight up — the south-easter shapes everything — so the stump is rarely sitting in the middle of its own root plate. On the loaded side there is usually a low mound where the plate has been levering the ground for years, and grinding the stump alone leaves that hump behind in an otherwise flat lawn. We take that side out too. One honest caveat on rooikrans coming in off the dune strip: cut low, below the lowest branch, it generally just dies rather than coppicing back, so grinding is not always the necessary spend.
What we check before quoting stump grinding in Table View
First thing we look at is which way the tree leaned and whether the ground has heaved on that side, because that is usually the difference between a level lawn afterwards and a lumpy one. Then the end use.
